5 STEP CLEAN SKINCARE ROUTINE

Like Femmé, I like my skincare how I like my sanitary products; cruelty free, sustainable and vegan where we can. Your skin is the biggest organ in the human body, meaning we absorb everything we put on it. Sounds scary right? That’s why I like to use products free from nasties. So drumroll, here is my clean, 5 step skincare routine.

STEP 1 – REMOVE MAKEUP

The first step when cleansing the skin is to remove any makeup. If you didn’t wear makeup throughout the day, that’s not an excuse to skip to step 2, sorry! Even if you think your skin is already relatively clean, dirt and oil will have built up throughout the day, so this step is imperative. Go-To’s Fancy Face is the perfect product to kick off your skincare routine. It’s a gentle cleansing oil that removes dirt, oil and makeup but doesn’t strip the skin of its natural oils. Free of Parabens and sulphate, Fancy Face leaves your skin feeling hydrated and refreshed. I apply 2-3 pumped into my hands and massage is all over my face, including my eyes (closed, obvs). I then take the damp muslin cloth the cleanser come with, and wipe my face clean.

STEP 2 – CLEANSE

Okay, so you can’t stop there. I know your face now feels properly cleansed, but we’re just getting started. Next is give your skin a deep clean. I love to use a balm for this step, to really feel the beads working into my skin, and getting deep into my pores. The Glow Recipe Papaya Sorbet Enzyme Cleansing Balm is one of my favourite vegan products. The papaya enzymes gently shed the dead skin away whilst thoroughly removing any remaining makeup. The papaya seed oil contains fatty acids and vitamin C to rehydrate the skin, and the blueberry extract contain antioxidants that protect the skin against environmental stressors.

STEP 3 – EXFOLIATE

Ever feel your skin is clean and blemish-free but something is lacking? It’s probably because your skin is looking dull. I know this is my most common skin problem. That’s where Go-To Exfoliating Swipey’s come into play. Go-To is one of my all-time favourite skincare brands because they’re simply, no-fuss skincare that happens to have chic packaging (a ‘must’ for me and my over-the-top, aesthetically-pleasing beauty cabinet). These single-use pads are soaked in an all-natural solution and are designed to exfoliate your skin and encourage cell turnover, to reveal a bright and even skin tone. The Swipey’s are made without silicones, parabens and of course don’t test on animals. I only use these about 2-3 times a week, to ensure I’m not being too abrasive on my skin.

STEP 4 – OIL

Now that our skin is squeaky clean, it’s time to hydrate. A common skincare misconception is that moisturiser comes before oil, but it’s actually the other way around. The premise is this: you should finish off your skincare routine with the heaviest product, so that all of your hard work before that, will be locked in. So, if your moisturiser is heavier than your face oil (which is usually the case), you should finish off your routine with that. Juno by Sunday Riley is a vegan face oil filled with vitamins that will hydrate your skin like no other. I take about 2-3 drops of Juno and massage it into my face and neck - NEVER forget the neck – and sit back and relax, knowing Juno is working it’s magic and about to give a glow you’d only read about.

STEP 5 – MOISTURISE

Hooray, we’ve made it to the end! That wasn’t so bad, was it? The final step is to moisturise. Drunk Elephant pride themselves on their sustainability. They have committed to using clean and natural products, that are also naturally sourced. Their Lala Retro Whipped Cream is an award winning product for a reason. Being cruelty-free, vegan and free of parabens, she’s the ultimate every day moisturiser. It’s rich and hydrating, yet non-greasy and doesn’t feel thick on the skin. It’s a yes from me. I massage one pump into my face and neck, and Voilà, your clean, hydrated and ready to conquer the day looking like a glowing, environmentally aware goddess.
